Costume designer, Ruth E. Carter is back to work and she’s bringing a few old friends with her.
Ruth E. Carter has over 40 films to her credit. Her most recent work on Ryan Coogler’s Marvel superhero film Black Panther garnered her an Academy Award for Best Costume Design, making her not only the first African American woman to win an Oscar in that category, but making her the first to bring an Oscar win to the Marvel franchise. Now, Carter is on to new projects and this time she’s responsible for dressing the cast of Coming to America 2.
Coming to America starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall, hit theaters in 1988. Deborah Nadoolman Landis, who handled costume design on the film, was nominated for an Oscar that year. Unfortunately, she did not bring home the win. Despite the loss at the Oscars, the film was a box office hit with a sequel being requested by fans over the decades.
Earlier this year it was revealed that a sequel was finally on the way but it’s only now that we have gotten confirmation from someone on set.
On Monday morning, Ruth took to social media to share photos alongside Eddie and Arsenio. In her caption she revealed that the two have just completed their first round of costume fittings. She wrote: “Preliminary fitting for Coming to America 2 with Prince Akeem, Semmi and Oscar.”
